This another area where there should be bipartisan support but instead there is partisan bickering. There is only one acceptable position here, steps must be taken by Congress to ensure Social Security remains solvent today and for future generations. Privatization is not the answer. It is simply another fraud perpetrated by the Republican elite on the American people.

We must take positive steps to ensure Social Security is properly funded for the long term. We must restore confidence in the system to our younger citizens a majority of whom do not believe Social Security will be there for them when they retire. If left up to the Republicans that fear will undoubtedly come to fruition.

I will work with fellow Democrats, Republicans of good will and organizations like AARP to develop a strategy backed by legislation that will ensure solvency and adequacy for decades to come.
